Maybe I'm just lying to myself, but I think I would be able to accept it more if he were open and honest about it: "I'm going out to get drunk tonight, don't expect me home." vs. "I'm going to my brother's house, I'll be home in 2-3 hours." (followed by a phone call in 4 hours, an argument, and then him turning his phone off).
